New consumer electronics products and technologies once again took center stage today at Lunch@Piero’s during CES, our independently produced, exclusive midday gathering of innovators and the media, and over the next few days we will be posting podcasts from the event.
The two-day invitation-only press event is featuring displays of some of today’s most relevant consumer electronics products and underlying CE technologies including ultra mobile devices, mobile phone applications, satellite connectivity, GPS, networking, blogging, VoIP, ripping services, hi-def entertainment software, electronic toys, and personal audio.
Reporters at Lunch@Piero’s are also taking a look at silicon technologies that are at the heart of small, portable devices. These power efficient processors are giving these devices longer battery life, vivid graphics and video playback. And complementing the devices are new memory products for storing pictures, music and data. Kingston showed tiny memory about the size of your little fingernail.
“We created the Lunch@ event at Piero’s Restaurant directly across from the Las Vegas Convention Center to give the media a dedicated place to speak face to face with the developers of cutting edge consumer electronics,” said Pat Meier-Johnson, president of Pat Meier Associates Public Relations, producers of Lunch@Piero’s. “Now in its twenty-second year, this format has proved a great success, with the media able to gain key insights into upcoming technologies that will be setting the trends for the industry.”
VIA Technologies, Inc., Platinum Sponsor of Lunch@Piero’s is showcasing the ultra mobile lifestyle, VIA’s vision of a world of richer consumer mobility with productivity, communication, entertainment and media creation on the go, through an array of ultra mobile devices powered by the VIA C7-M ULV ultra mobile x86 processor.
Every year Lunch@Piero’s features a special Showcase of the Future, where we focus on areas such as robotics, swarming connectivity, and new digital entertainment technologies that you will be seeing in new products down the line. This year, Lunch@Piero’s is featuring a daily jam session featuring PureJoy and AudioPint from MIT Media Lab running on VIA EPIA Mini-ITX mainboards. Together, PureJoy and AudioPint form a complete electronic musical instrument that uses the human voice as its source material, and that is capable of complex rhythms, harmony, and new sounds.
And several products are making their World Debut at Lunch@Piero’s including a totally open Linux mobile phone and development environment from OpenMoko/FIC. OpenMoko will discuss how its open source mobile communications platform will revolutionize the mobile phone industry, and transform the future of niche businesses around the world.
It was also the World Debut at Lunch@Piero's for OQO, who showed their new model 02 ultra mobile PCs. Reporters got to see this full-powered, full-featured windows XP/Windows Vista capable computer with EV-DO wireless broadband that fits in the palm of your hand. (I want one, I want one!)
